Sister Shanita Lay

I grew up in a small town in Oklahoma where sexuality was not discussed but repressed. After high school, I fled to Knoxville where I found queer culture and acceptance. A number of years later, I made my way to Dallas.

My journey with the DFW Sisters began in May of 2019 while attending their Red Dress Party. It was my first time wearing makeup and heels in public and I loved every minute of it.

Having volunteered and worked for non-profit organizations throughout my adult life, I wanted to find the group which allowed me to express myself while also giving back to our community and for me that is the DFW Sisters.

The Calling:

I am called to help others live authentic lives while learning to embrace and encourage others to do the same. I believe we all have the right to express ourselves in any way we choose without fear of guilt or shame. I love encouraging others to safely explore their sexuality by creating dialogue and a safe space to share feelings, thoughts, and desires.
